I remember a Snape/Hermione fic on fanfiction.net written immediately after the release of DH that began with Hermione weeping over Ron's death in a car accident - one thing in particular that she was moaning was that he would have survived if only he had looked in the wing mirror.

...Snape had been in a coma for nineteen years, blah blah blah... but the point is, I s'pose that's what people mean when they say "Oh well, there's always fanfiction?"

Disclaimer: I like Ron/Hermione, I don't quite see the appeal in Snape/Hermione, but at least the method of getting the fic off the ground was amusing in a dark way...
