Even with the two wars being connected killing Grindelwald off in 1939 would not have stopped the Muggle WWII and all its atrocities. I suppose you could make the argument to Grindelwald had Hitler and/or the Nazis acting under the Imperious curse, but that would excuse the Nazis from guilt (urgh, I don't even want to consider that scenario). Grindelwald vs. Muggles and Nazis vs. Jews, etc. seem to be two separate issues.
I also want to know why Dumbledore was the only one who could stop Grindelwald. Surely he was not alone in his complacency. Perhaps DD could have stopped the Muggle war by murdering Hitler but so could have any number of wizards or witches.
