If the hero gets into a crisis, there's no earthly reason for him NOT to cast a spell that would prevent him from suffering.
Sure there is. Harry can only cast a couple of spells, and I'm pretty sure Impervious isn't one of them. A pity he didn't bring Hermione along to cast it on him. She might have even reminded him to take the One Ring off. Oh, guess that would spoil Ron's heroic return. No wonder he didn't wake her.
