Change in Policy

People--

So far two people have bailed on their sporkings, and today's sporking isn't up yet. I'm getting more than a little irritated. You had months to get the sporks done. And I've told you repeatedly that if you're having problems getting the sporkings done, you only have to tell [livejournal.com profile] erastes or me, and we will find a substitute.

For a comm like this to work, we need sporkers to participate. I don't think that asking you either to do the spork you signed up for or to notify the mods if, for whatever reason, you can't do the spork is asking too much.

[livejournal.com profile] erastes and I have talked it over, and we've decided that while we don't want to close the comm, there is going to have to be a change in policy. Since sporks aren't getting done, and since contacting people is not having the desired effect either, this is what will happen:

As self-posting is not working, from now on, everyone send their sporks to us, at least three days before they are due. EVERYONE. Check the schedule to see when your spork is due. We will then post the sporks for you in your names.

If you don't send us the spork, we will presume that you have not done the work, and will do the spork ourselves. And we will mention that this was supposed to be So-and-So's spork.

That's IT.

Well, in my case, that might also save you from another night of trying to figure out why Livejournal hates me. I'd been worrying about whether we'd go through that again. ^_^;;;

Is the schedual being adjusted again?

Feel free to assign some extras to me.

Okay, this comm just exceeded its alloted drama level. Replace me.

[identity profile] erastes.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
has there been ANY drama? But fine, you obviously had no intention of actually honouring your committments.

DEEP apologies!

Hi,

Just to say again - mea culpa, mea maxima culpa!

I honestly was so preoccupied with Mom mourning her rather sweet little dog (me too, actually) and all the other things that always seem to be waiting for me to do at her house, I spaced out till the weekend that I'd meant to post these then. At that point, with her entire town doing its best Siberia imitation, I couldn't do much about it.

So very sorry - I am posting these on my return, late but at least up. And now I have only got 4 days of missed work to make up for, and it's the middle of the night here where I live!

OTOH, I have absolute *days* of the sporks to read, once I catch up :-)

Yes, I agree, and I am even more regretful about the lack of comm. than the lateness. Normally, Mom's house is my wireless heaven, but she was so discombobulated last week she didn't tell me till I was trying to check my online calendar on Saturday that she had lost wireless several days before I even got there. Weekends are NOT the time to try getting repair guy out in the snow. I hang my head and humbly admit, I forgot completely to think whether there were communities I needed to be checking in with *online* -- simply switched to the phone to keep up with my department, coworkers, etc. Didn't think about the online-only kinds of contacts until back in my own town here, and weeding through several hundred emails. It was a major OMG headdesk to see your email and this post ...

In hindsight, I think that next time I'm on tap to be posting in a sequence like this, I will try to find a way to do what I do for the classes I run online -- post the material in advance but with its proper date, that is, a date that is also in advance. I can set our online course system to "reveal" only when the date arrives. I don't know if LJ allows such a thing ... the post-dated material would be visible in the comm, but wouldn't go onto flists, I think (?), until the actual proper date. And it would all sort into date sequence on the comm as well, if I'm inferring this correctly.

At least, that would be one way to do online what we do in RL -- not be tied to the computer physically on the specified days, but rather, able to set things up so that the online world moves on its own trajectory, without conflicting with RL, or being so blasted dependent on it.

Obviously, the equivalent is you, as mods, taking on the work of getting the sections emailed to you in advance and physically posting them yourselves at the appropriate time.

Seeing your post asking ppl to do this, I would agree -- that is the safer procedure (although again, much more work for you) if the No. 1 priority is to have each post go up on the exact day scheduled.

Thanks for your patience and understanding!

Happy to do any spare sporking that's needed. I'm really enjoying this comm, glad we're not stopping.

I hope you find people to do chapters. :(
