The post-spork discussion will be up later. In the meantime, this is where you can post recommendations for fic and art that deal with plotholes Rowling never filled, with the Wizarding World at war, with the aftermath of the war, with AUs and dystopias, et cetera, et cetera, and so forth...you get the idea.

Some stories have been suggested already, and are listed here. I've added a few others. As other suggestions are made, I'll add them to the master list. I figure that will be easier to find later; I don't think anyone likes having to scramble through comments for rec links.

MASTER LIST

Fanfic

At the Lord's Door by [livejournal.com profile] gehayi. In the afterlife's waiting room, Dead Dumbledore meets up with the other dead people of the series, and hears quite a few unwelcome truths about himself. Written pre-DH. Warning: not flattering to Canon Dumbledore. At ALL.

Awkward Questions by Amanuensis1. Scorpius Malfoy wants to know why he doesn't have a godfather. Gen.

Back Again, Harry? by Jedi Buttercup. WIP about a Harry who had gained all the Hallows and chose to use them by going back in time to his first year to prevent all those deaths.

Bewitchments and Charmes by [livejournal.com profile] sshg316. Books have always been Hermione's friend ... until one literally binds her to the insufferable Draco Malfoy. Freeing themselves seems impossible — will they be able to overcome the past or will they be stuck together forever? (Draco/Hermione)

Bonding Through House Elf Murder by Chess. A one-shot about the Black family when they were little. Author's summary:Bellatrix and Sirius try to stop Regulus and Kreacher from bonding. Yeah right, kids.

Chosen by [livejournal.com profile] gehayi. Written because I wondered what would happen if Harry died at the beginning of the seventh book. And then I wondered what would happen next.

Coda to an Epilogue by [livejournal.com profile] mistful. Read this one NOW, as it's coming down in September, along with a fair number of her other stories.

Deathly Hallows, Personal Version by va32h.

Deliver Me From My Friends by [livejournal.com profile] minkhollow Potterverse/Neverwhere crossover.

Dialogues With a Hat by [livejournal.com profile] jaelle_n_gilla. Neville, the two times he wore the Sorting Hat.

Disrupting Rituals by r_grayjoy. Illustrated by artisticentropy. EWE (Epilogue? What Epilogue?). Some rituals should be disrupted -- and perhaps even replaced with others. Warning: contains bondage, rimming, orgasm delay, dubious consent and snark. (Snape/Harry, NC-17)
[Note to LJ: the story takes place six years AFTER the seventh book, which makes Harry twenty-three years old and thus very definitely of age...even in California.]

Elanor_X's Favorite Fics' List.

Engineered Collisions by Anonymous. Provides a very unique explanation for Snape's survival, deals realistically with the epilogue developments and explores the phenomenon of Dumbledore's 'clever' planning going spectacularly wrong while hurting many innocents. Again. (Ron/Hermione, Snape/Hermione)

Epilogue by [livejournal.com profile] arrmaitee. The Jerry Springer version of the Epilogue, that is.

Everything's Fine, Beautiful Marchesa by Fidelia. Translated from the Russian. Draco writes a letter to his father.

[livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon's Harry Potter Stories for 2007. And 2006. And 2005.

The French Connection by Anonymous. Addresses the question of Snape's survival and deals with the lingering aftereffects of war and loss. All is not instantly well.

Get a Life by [livejournal.com profile] camillo1978. Deconstructs the 'happy' epilogue to reveal all the rot beneath. It also addresses the need for Wizarding laws to be overhauled and the question of Goblins' Rights.

The Golden Age by Arsinoe de Blassenville. What happened between the end of the war and the epilogue. WIP. Highly recommended.

Harry Potter Book 7: THE TRUE STORY by 0freedom. Another DH parody; this one goes chapter by chapter, and has LOLcat Bellatrix among other things.

The Human Condition by CK Talons.

In the Closet by Michi_Chu. Romance. Read the author's non-warning, as I can't improve on it.

In Vino Veritas by [livejournal.com profile] ellid. Order + Severus gets raucously drunk. Warning for grindylow abuse. (Snape/Lupin, Ron/Hermione, Tonks/Ginny)

In Which Severus Snape Learns That There Is Not One Afterlife by [livejournal.com profile] montavilla. The title says it all. Author's Warning: Rated XC for excessively good Snape.

Like Minds by skree-ratling. Mafia non-magic AU. (Snape/Lupin)

Lupin-Snape Resurrection Fest by various authors.

The Men that I Used to Sport With by Anonymous. Deconstructs all the flaws in the epilogue and also explores a number of plotholes from canon regarding the Resurrection Stone.

Mistful's Other Fics. As I said, read them now, because they'll only be around until September 2008.

Mum's Privilege by Amanuensis1. Ginny keeps naming the children after dead people. Harry/Ginny, post-DH, remembering Snape. Gen.

My Death? Complete Exaggeration by Mnemosyne. "The reports of my death were a complete exaggeration." (Snape/Lupin)

Just closing the plot holes or fixing the universe? Because there´s some next-gen fics that don´t exaclty deal with the holes in DH, but give the characters the shades of gray and subtly that we spend the series looking for. Are those game too?

Then: http://scoradh.livejournal.com/tag/the+road+less+travelled. It´s a next-gen story focusing on Albus Severus and, trust me when I say it, it´s worthy (Dudley´s son goes to Hogwarts. You can´t miss that)

And this one, because people were annoyed by the kid´s names: http://amanuensis1.insanejournal.com/4793.html#cutid1

...huh, hadn't thought of the Neverwhere one (I think because it starts addressing the problems sooner than book 7).
I'm planning to pull up that anagram generator sometime soon and see if I can't give the Sneakers crossover a title from that. XD

It's absolutely disgusting, not that fan writers could out-write her own story, but that they could do it on top of school and work and with only betas, while she had two years to work full time on this, with access to any sort of help money could buy, secluded from the world and with the ability to get input from any number of professional, gifted editors.

This is my favorite fics' list (of course, with links). All of those fics stood out for me and are of high quality. I have chosen them out of hundreds.

If you want, you can make a look at the list. Each link has a short summery, so you'll understand what the fics are about.

I would like to specially recommend:

1, 3 & 4 (out of the Top 4 category)
The first one is called "Daddy's Favorite".
Severus Snape has long complained about Albus Dumbledore's favoritism toward Harry Potter. Usually his voice is alone. But is he the only one who feels that way, or is he just the only one who voices the opinion? Here is how several people view the relationship between Dumbledore and Harry in the wake of Harry's fifth year

2 & 4 (out of Missing scenes)
1, 2, 4, 8 (out of Humor)
1 (out of the last 5) - I talk about "Brilliance" by DramaQueen)

In addition, I liked "The Human Condition" by CK Talons. (wrote a recommendation here -http://elanor-x.livejournal.com/12854.html )

One of the best fic writers in HP fandom is mistful. Full list of her fics is here: http://elanor-x.livejournal.com/28600.html#cutid1
My favorites are Your Every Wish (H/D, R) and Quality of Mercy (slash and het, R; WIP).

The last fic recommendation is a very short humorous fic with a twist I translated from Russian. It's about Draco writing a letter to his father.
http://elanor-x.livejournal.com/13330.html

I know I recommended probably too many fics for one post, but I believe they're worth it and wish other fans to enjoy them the way I did. There are so many fics out there, that some very good ones are read by a relatively small number of people, which is a pity.

Get it while you can. It comes down in September.

(This author is very well-known, with a lot of other fics also due to be taken down at that time. i.e, right about when the author's first "pro" novel comes out.)

There's been quite a bit written in the recent SS/HG Exchange that addresses loopholes and inconsistencies in canon, but here are a few specific recs:

*Engineered Collisions (http://sshg-mod.livejournal.com/126749.html) (SS/HG, still anonymous) provides a very unique explanation for Snape's survival, deals realistically with the epilogue developments and explores the phenomenon of Dumbledore's 'clever' planning going spectacularly wrong while hurting many innocents. *The Men that I Used to Sport With (http://community.livejournal.com/sshg_exchange/101354.html#cutid1) (anonymous) brilliantly deconstructs all the flaws in the epilogue and also explores a number of plotholes from canon regarding the Resurrection Stone.

*The French Connection (http://community.livejournal.com/sshg_exchange/119315.html) (anonymous) addresses the question of Snape's survival and deals with the lingering aftereffects of war and loss. All is not instantly well.

*Not from the Exchange, but Get a Life (http://ashwinder.sycophanthex.com/viewstory.php?sid=16647) also deconstructs the 'happy' epilogue to reveal all the rot beneath. It also addresses the need for Wizarding laws to be overhauled and the question of Goblins' Rights.

Is okay to self-pimp?

I have a semi-finished Snape epic (started pre-DH) that attempts to fill a few of the plot holes.

It's called Severus Snape and the Half-Blood Prince (http://montavilla.livejournal.com/tag/guts). I tagged it with GUTS (for Grand Unified Theory of Snape). Since it's about thirty chapters now, you have to go back a page to find the beginning.

At one point, I wrote an epilogue (http://montavilla.livejournal.com/9818.html#cutid1) (even though I'm probably only halfway through it). Ala JKR, I decided to post it. (Of course, I'm not going to promise that it's theepilogue. I've already started writing a second one....)

Thank you for including my fic on your rec list.

In reading through the spork, I fear I have committed a few semicolon sins of my own. I do hope that these can be forgiven though, in light of a Fidelius Charm that works the way JKR said it worked, a Lupin who isn't a cowardly bastard, a Harry who isn't ragingly incompetent and a Snape who dies with dignity.

Sorry for the spoiler. Yeah, he dies in my version too. He's a tragic figure and would never be at home in this world. But he dies as his own man, neither stooge nor spy for LV or DD and Harry gives him a far better tribute than "Albus Severus." I won't spoil that for you!

Bewitchments and Charmes (http://sshg316.livejournal.com/107501.html) by [livejournal.com profile] sshg316 (Draco/Hermione) offers a very poignant observation of how damaged that year - and particularly the torture at the Malfoys' estate - left Hermione and Draco, and explores a very plausible avenue of how they may have tried to deal with the trauma and with the necessity of making amends.

Summary: Books have always been Hermione's friend ... until one literally binds her to the insufferable Draco Malfoy. Freeing themselves seems impossible — will they be able to overcome the past or will they be stuck together forever?
